Choosing The Right Training School For Your Dog

Training school is a must for everyone who has a new puppy. Habits that they develop at an early age will stay with them for the rest of their lives. This includes both the positive and the negative. While it is possible to teach an older dog, it is harder for them to unlearn bad habits than it is to learn positive ones at a young age. But if you don’t choose the correct class for your pet, you might end up in a position that is worse than before.

If your dog is at least twelve weeks old, she is old enough to enroll in a class. The sooner you can start the better you’ll be. You do, nonetheless, want to make sure that all of the needed vaccinations are in place before exposing your pet to others. So the first step is to get a clean bill of health.

Once you know you are ready, you’ll want to find the number one school. Of course, picking out the right one can be difficult. Begin by getting the testimonials of others. Acquaintances with dogs and vets are good points to start. Even if you get a lot of recommendations for one place, you should always watch the class before you sign up. You might want to write down any impressions that you have of them.

Ideally, you’ll find a class that is both mellow and amiable. This will be the least stressful for both you and your pet. Take note on how the owners and their pets seem. Also check out what the trainers are doing. Are they keeping an eye on everybody? Are they giving individual help if needed?

Pay attention to the venue. You don’t want to feel cramped, so avoid any location that is too small. See if there is a separate area away from the course where dogs can go if they are shy or need to be on their own.

Also make note of how many animals there are in the course. You don’t want it to be too small, because socialization is an important aspect of this. So there should be more than just three other dogs. But if there are too many it can be difficult to get the attention that you’ll require and the environment may be too frantic for learning to take place.

All of the other dogs should be the same age as your pet. This is good for a few different reasons. Group work is much less complicated if everyone is on the same learning level. It will also make it easier for your puppy to socialize if everyone there is the same age as her.

You want this to be a positive experience. Avoid a course if they use things that can make your pet fearful. This includes things such as jerking on chains. These things impair not only your puppy’s ability to learn but also her relationship with you.

Having a well-behaved and socialized dog will make the difference for years to come. Because this will affect the rest of your pet’s life, take the time to find the best training school for them.

After the training is complete, you can start doing fun things with your obedient dog. This includes dressing them up in silly outfits, for things like Halloween and picture taking. Check out fun ideas at Star Wars dog costumes and the Yoda dog costume.
